Game Change

Obama has opened up a steady lead in the race for president. Romney’s support in recent weeks has stagnated. And, as attack ads air across the country, Romney’s likeability has continuously decreased. Romney is keenly aware of this.
He is also aware that he has three potential game-changers in the race: his party’s convention, his performance in the presidential debates, and, of course, the selection of his VP.
Paul Ryan is the game-changer he needs, and having awakened his base for the first time, Romney will get a boost in the next few weeks.
But with boldness comes risk. Ryan brings with him the baggage of the Ryan plan, which proposes major cuts and changes to Medicare. Ryan’s presence on the ticket will revive the Democratic attacks of the 2010 campaign. And now Romney and Ryan will have to make peace with seniors, one of the largest voting blocs in American elections.
Conclusion: Ryan will give Romney a boost in the short run, but could do significant damage in the long run.
