#homophobia

Homophobic TweetsNoHomophobes.com is a Web site that aggregates some of the most common homophobic phrases used on Twitter. The website allows viewers to see live statistics on the use of phrases like “no homo” and “so gay” as well as harsher slurs used against gays and lesbians. Another section of the page displays the offensive tweets as they roll in in real time. At times, bursts of homophobia flood in so quickly that it’s impossible to read the full tweets. Foreseeing this, the site’s authors give users the option to pause tweets and examine them more fully.
The site elegantly proves the argument queer activists have been making for years: casual homophobia remains a pervasive and hurtful element of online culture, and  LGBT people are exposed to hateful comments on a daily basis. Here, we have some useful statistics.
