As part of our 2026 midterms coverage at the Harvard Political Review, we have gathered here a series of articles in which writers take a closer look at some of the most consequential contests this cycle. Since the question of whether the Senate will flip or remain in Republican control looms especially large this cycle, our authors feature six Senate races that provide insight into the contest for power in the upper chamber.
The pieces dissect the local issues and conditions driving candidates’ platforms and voters’ priorities in each state while contextualizing these races in the national political landscape. They also examine emerging dynamics in races, from new campaign strategies to the breakdown of a two-party structure amidst a highly polarized political climate.
Our analysis covers a wide range of states from Montana to Maine, including one piece that compares how the Senate and gubernatorial races in Georgia have fallen along different points of contention. In addition, we present a special data piece in which we discuss the nature of polling and election prediction. View the full collection of these articles here.
We would like to thank our associate U.S. editors Melanie Goldberg, Haein Kang, Caitlin Saxinger, and David Xiong; Johnny Perkins for his work on the data piece; and Aidan Zagel for designing the graphics.
